Case Study - Moving beyond Wix while the shop stays open

Overview

Avid TCG was ready to move beyond Wix, but the shop couldn’t stop selling while that happened. The catalogue held hundreds of products, the team knew the existing editing tools and new card releases had to go live on time. We needed to build a new shop while keeping the current one running.

We planned the move in stages. Products are copied from Wix into a separate database and kept in sync, including their links and images. The team can choose when each product appears in the new shop and keep editing in Wix during the transition. We also keep URLs stable and generate sitemaps and structured data for search engines.

What we did

The new storefront uses Stripe for purchases outside the Wix checkout. Its product and collection pages use our synced database, so they don’t have to wait for Wix to respond each time a customer visits. Admin controls let the team prepare and test products before putting them on sale in the new shop.

Images are uploaded, processed and served from an S3-compatible system close to the app servers, with versions sized for different screens. We made the editing tools familiar to people used to Wix, with access based on their roles. Training and publishing guidance cover the new workflow, including how to handle page links and search information.

Sitemaps come from the synced catalogue, with canonical links and structured data kept consistent. Automated deployment checks, caching and monitoring support the shop during busy releases. As the migration completes, account access and catalogue management will move onto the new system, using the editing approach the team already knows.
